After a while, take the time to look up and see if anyone is following, chances are that eventually someone will be, and then another and another and another.
Think about this: how many people in history have even done foolish things and others have followed after them simply because they were so convincing? And why were they convincing? Because they themselves appeared convinced of their personal direction and refuse to be turned away from it. You may have seen the movie ‘Forest Gump’ where one man ran across the entire country for years and people followed him. Why? Because they thought that he knew where he was going. When it comes to that, not only will people follow someone who knows where they are going, but they will be quicker to forgive them when they fail. This is the primary foundation of great leadership development.
Sure, there are character traits which any great leader must have: courage, integrity, a positive attitude about failure, persistence, respect, loyalty and the ability to understand others and to effectively persuade and communicate. However, none of these mean anything without the key ingredient of leadership development and that is certainty of direction and consistent movement towards it. If you do not have this, reset and find out where you are going today, and then get moving and watch how people begin to follow you naturally.
