So you have done all of the search engine optimization which you know to do and you are still not getting anywhere with the search results. First things first, search engine optimization is not nearly as important as most people make it out to be. Now you can call me a nutcase in a minute if you think that I am wrong, but just hold on first. Do you know how all of the greatest companies become household names? They understood a principle of marketing that most companies just don’t get. They understood the power of building brand loyalty and brand recognition. Your company’s brand is like its identity and its reputation. It represents the promise that you are making to your customers and why they should do business with you.

Do you know why a lot of companies are being lost in the crowd on the internet? I’ll give you a hint: it has nothing to do with their search engine optimization. It has everything to do with the power of their brand. A brand has to be unique and since there is hardly such thing as a unique product or service anymore then you have to have a unique image. If you have this and you are able to build strong impressions of your brand in the mind of your customer, they are going to bypass the search engines and go right to you.

The reason why so many companies are struggling to become more significant with their search engine optimization is because they have not done enough to become significant in the mind of their customers. Marketing either happens in the mind of the customer or not at all, so does building brand recognition and brand loyalty. If you can dominate your customer’s memory with your brand, you have no need to dominate the search engine results.

How do you do this? Well, entire books have been written on the subject of good branding. However, since I don’t have that kind of room, how about starting with this: Your brand must be as unique as your personality, it must be simple and easy to remember and it must be specific. A lot of people on the internet are making their brand subject to their search engine optimization strategies. Right now there are thousands of generic .coms out there which were chosen because they were regarded as search engine relevant.

Where are they all? It’s not books.com, its amazon.com. It’s not auction.com, it’s ebay.com. I could go on but you get the idea. Now get to work on your brand!
