NLP Training-Speed reading Personality Styles

21 September 2009

How would you like to be able to use your NLP training to persuade and to coach others from a perspective of understanding their personality style? What if you could speed read a person in such a way that within thirty seconds of hearing them speak you could know whether they were more motivated by fun, a challenge, comfort or by accuracy and structure? Do you think that you would have an easier time influencing and persuading or just understanding people better? If you are interested and would like to take your NLP training to a new level then you are about to learn the fastest way to read any person.

You are probably aware of the NLP training technique of identifying someone’s communication style by watching the movement of their eyes and by listening for patterns in their speech. However, this does not tell you the entire story. There are basically four personality types which we will identify using the colors: Red, Green, Blue and Gold.

  • Reds are direct and are very analytical, they are fast paced and like to be in charge or to work alone. They are most likely going to rise to a challenge and work well under pressure and their sense of humor is likely to be very sarcastic.
  • Greens are analytical like Reds but are more indirect, slow and methodical. They are more task oriented and prefer structure and accuracy. Their sense of humor is usually dry, clever and a bit obscure.
  • Golds are more intuitive and tend to be more people oriented and relational. They like being comfortable and are diplomatic and indirect in their communication. Their sense of humor tends to be lighthearted.
  • Blues are more intuitive and are fast paced; they are more socially driven and tend to be persuasive and fun to be around. Their sense of humor tends to be more on the slapstick side and they are motivated by anything fun.

Now that you know these, it is time to speed read the personality types so that you can apply your NLP training in relating with and persuading them. Here is how you can read each one in less than thirty seconds: Listen for the sound of their voice in relation to both their pace and their pitch.

Reds and Blues are going to be fast so if someone talks at a faster pace you are down to two possible options. Then you listen for the tone of their voice, if it is monotone and unemotional you have a Red. If it is more colorful and expressive you have a Blue. However, if they are slower paced in their speech you have a Green or a Red and then you narrow it down by listening for the expressive tone of a Gold or the monotone of a Green.

This is the absolute quickest way to identify someone’s personality type so that you can apply your NLP training in interacting with them.  Have fun!
