The Secret Part V:The Cause of Imbalance
“What we value is not nearly as important as why we value it.” –Seth Czerepak
Hey ! welcome to the October issue of Genius in Leadership. If you are just tuning in to this series on Value Driven Transcendence be sure to read the previous entries on The Secret . In the last entry, we talked about how value is the driving force of our lives. However, have you ever been in a situation where you valued something but your actions didn’t reflect it?
You know, when there’s something that you know you should be doing to change your life for the better and to have something of you want…but you’re just not doing it.
So if value drives our actions….how come our actions sometimes don’t always support our values? It’s because what we value is not nearly as important as the standard by which we determine value. This standard is your personal VQ, and if it’s faulty you’ll end up with what I call “Value Conflicts.”
Your VQ is also what determines your self-image, which is in control of all your consistent actions. Having value conflicts is what causes a person to build their life up with one hand and tear it down with the other hand.
There are four different standards which constitute a faulty VQ:
- A VQ based on the opinions of others (for better or worse)
- A VQ based on material wealth
- A VQ based on Performance (for better or worse)
- A VQ based on your outer appearance
If your VQ is based on any of these four things, your sense of sense of self-worth will be controlled by the ebb and flow of these things in your life. Since your self-worth is the driving force of your actions, this means your actions and your life will also be controlled by the ebb and flow of life.
This is how your life gets out of balance and out of control.
If you ever feel that there aren’t enough hours in a day, or that there is too much month left over at the end of the money, or that nothing you ever do is good enough or if fear of criticism sometimes keeps you from pursuing your dreams…if you struggle with perfectionism and procrastination or if you simply have an aching feeling that there is more to you than you are demonstrating…..
….all of these are symptoms of a faulty VQ.
The purpose of Value Driven Transcendence is to empower you to build a healthy VQ based on the application of four laws:
- Clarity
- Elimination
- Contribution
- Perseverance
And next month we will be breaking down these laws and the principles behind them so be sure to stay connected.
