Ok , it’s time to break out of your comfort zone again! By the way, in order for these to work you actually have to do them so if you haven’t been practicing these every month let’s get going already!
You may be thinking that these exercises are embarrassing and silly….that’s the idea! If you can handle the feeling of embarrassment by learning to meet it head on, you can deal with any kind of social situation no matter how uncomfortable it may seem.
Ok, off my soapbox…here is your assignment this month. The next time you are out in public, find a reason to high five someone and initiate it. It can be something which seems very minor and it can be anyone from the cashier at a store to someone who you compliment…just be sure that it’s someone you don’t know.
For example: “Hey, love those boots!” (holding your hand up for a high five).
Don’t worry if they say no…let this be an exercise in dealing with rejection. If they don’t reciprocate, go into an explanation of how the high five works and demonstrate it by high fiving yourself.
If they still look at you funny, tell them you are “still stuck in the 80’s,” and wink at them. Make it a goal to get a three high fives AND three rejections this month.
