Copywriting Secrets-Using the Force in Your Sales Copy
People are always asking what makes the difference between good sales writing and great sales writing. If I had to pick one thing it would be force.
Does your writing have that oomph that just leaps off the page and seizes the attention of your customers? If not, you are about to find out what you’re missing…
What is Force in Writing?
Force is what makes writing active and alive. Inactive writing might get read, but it almost never inspires action. Active writing inspires action because it is created using active words:
Verbs.
Now, like anything else in this world, not all verbs are created equal. There are weak verbs and there are strong ones. Can you guess which of these make writing forceful?
Let’s look at some forceful verbs: swoop, seize, thrust, shatter, explode, soar, catapult…
Now, some weak verbs: get, make, buy, receive, increase, move….zzzzz…
Just look the difference in these two examples:
1)     What if you could get your customer’s attention with your writing and make them want to buy from you? What would it feel like to enjoy the increase in your income as a result?
2)     Imagine being able to swoop in and seize your customers’ attention with your writing. Imagine feeling your adrenaline soar as your sales results were catapulted from a dead still to a record shattering high!
Wow! Can you feel the difference between these two kinds of writing? One is talking while the other is actually doing something. If you noticed this difference, you just experienced the power of forceful writing. And the best part is that you can start packing your writing with this pure verbal dynamite today!
Now the great thing about the English language is that just about every verb has several alternatives. We can run, dash, dart, hurry, sprint, bolt or flee. We can walk, stroll, shuffle, trudge, swagger or strut. We can shout, holler, scream, bellow….grab, seize, clench….push, thrust or shove. Just try this: find some writing, any writing, and practice replacing the verbs with action packed powerhouses of excitement and motivation.
When you find a weak verb in your writing ask yourself this: “How is this action being done?” will the person be shivering, shuddering, trembling or shaking with excitement? Use power verbs and give your writing force. Make it active and alive and see what actions is compels in your customers.
